The school was established in the Seaview Downs area 45 years ago.
Classical ballet syllabus of the Royal Academy of Dance is used as a base for the students. Miss Claudia believes ballet is fun, develops gross motor skills, an appreciation of music and develops confidence in all students.
The Royal Academy of Dance is a world wide organisation operating in over 75 countries offering a syllabus that enables students from the age of 3 to enjoy dance. Students can study classical ballet once or twice a week from the age of 3 years. Examinations are offered to those students who wish to work towards a goal but are not compulsory.
This exciting syllabus offers new and challenging physical activities for all ages. Music used varies from full orchestrations to solo piano. A student learning classical ballet can move into other styles of dance with little effort.
Not every child wants to become a ballerina BUT what they learn each week in class gives each individual confidence, knowledge of how their body works, an appreciation of music, physical growth and development of their cognitive skills.
Students attending this school have achieved a high standard throughout their careers, becoming members of the
Australian Ballet Company,
Houston Ballet Company,
Queensland Ballet Company and
Introdans in Amsterdam.
The year 2000 Miss Claudia Maddeford became Principal of the school adding her extensive knowledge to the classical ballet curriculum.
In 2013 the school moved to the Brighton Secondary School using the Drama room for classes. The studio has mirrors, barres on the wall and is fully air-conditioned.
Students enjoy a mid year performance in the Brighton Performing Arts centre to develop performance skills and showcase their technique.
The end of year Performance tells a story and all students are involved.
Jazz ballet using popular music is lively and energetic as is Tap dancing and contemporary dance.
